City officials were given the pitch earlier this week and have asked members of the planning commission to consider the issue.Developers of the 41-acre project say more retail will make the overall project more fiscally sound. This week's request was not the first for change.
The original redevelopment proposal called for 51,100 sf of retail space, 80,000-sf of office space and 820 apartments. Since then, the project has been scaled back, first lowering the number of apartments to 685, then 285 this week. The office portion has been entirely wiped out.
Located at the intersection of Interstates 90 and 405, Factoria Mall, now boasts 525,000 sf of retail space. Anchor tenants include Mervyn's, the Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Safeway and Target.
