In San Francisco, the firm was recently selected to build the University of California San Francisco Mission Bay Research Laboratory, a 435,000-sf project.

The company also is designing a 430,000-sf addition to the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center in Washington, DC.

SmithGroup also designed the $1.2-billion McNamara Terminal at the NorthwestWorldGateway, Detroit Metropolitan Airport, which opened Sunday. Also in Detroit, the company is lead architect for the $300-million Ford Field, the new domed stadium for the Detroit Lions, slated for completion in August 2002.

The company has also announced a new leadership team. The following will serve asofficers:

* David R.H. King, FAIA, becomes chairman.

* Arnie Mikon, FAIA, will become vice chairman. He was formerly chairman,president and CEO.

* Carl Roehling, FAIA, becomes president and CEO. He was formerly presidentof SmithGroup-Midwest.

* Randy Swiech, P.E., has been named as chief operating officer.

* Fred Klancnik, P.E., will serve as treasurer.

Mike Medici, AIA, president of SmithGroup-Southwest; Rebecca Nolan, president of SmithGroup-California; and Hal Davis, AIA, president of SmithGroup-Mid Atlantic; complete the new eight-member management team.
