Nonresidential property includes commercial and industrial property, as well as hotels, education buildings, churches and government facilities. In contrast, residential construction was boosted to $395.1 million in January 2002, up 24% from January 2001.

Residential construction, as defined by McGraw-Hill, includes single-family homes and multifamily rental housing.
