Starwood Expands Presence in Far East

WHITE PLAINS-Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide reports its has struck a new management deal with a hotel operator in Kyoto, Japan and will soon will be opening its 14th hotel in China.

WHITE PLAINS-Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc., reports it has struck a management deal to rebrand the Miyako Hotel in Kyoto to The Westin Miyako. The deal brings the company’s Westin hotel portfolio in Japan to five and its total hotel presence there to 10 facilities. The hotelier also reports that its Sheraton Shenyang Lido Hotel located in the city center of southern Shenyang in China is set to open on March 16.

The White-Plains-based firm says that it has reached a management agreement with Kintetsu Hotel Systems to rebrand the 110-year-old Miyako Hotel under the Westin flag. The deal will be effective as of April of this year.

Commenting on the management agreement, Miguel Ko, president, Asia-Pacific for Starwood says, “We are extremely proud and delighted to welcome the famous Miyako Hotel back to the Westin family. This reinforces our commitment to the development of the Westin brand. The Westin Miyako in Kyoto, one of the most popular destinations in Japan for leisure and convention travelers, will complement our portfolio of properties in Japan.”
