Earlier this week, the tribe said it has selected Morris & Brown Architects, of Las Vegas, to design the project, which will include a 3,000-seat entertainment area, a 250-room hotel and a Northwest theme throughout.

As a sovereign nation, the tribe need not comply with state and local government laws to move ahead with the project. But the tribe must adhere to federal environmental and gaming rules in order to proceed with development.

The tribe has said for several years it would replace its current riverboat casino, but could not decide on the perfect location. When finished, the facility is expected to employ more than 3,000 people.
