Debbie Brown, VP of Northwest client services for Watertown, MA-based Bright Horizons, confirmed for GlobeSt.com that multiple delays in Lincoln Square's construction prompted the firm to use an escape clause in its lease. "Obviously it would have been easer to stay (at Lincoln Square)," Brown offers. "Now we're having to start over, and that takes time and energy. But the construction delays (at Lincoln Square) were going to put us out further than we were willing to go."

Despite Brown's reference to multiple delays, Richard Leider, project director for Lincoln Square, who responded to GlobeSt.com with a brief written statement, said only that "Lincoln Square ownership is proceeding with an aggressive construction schedule and is expected to open as planned in summer 2003."

The Bright Horizons center here will be it's ninth on the Eastside and its second in downtown. The company's regional manager, Maggie Brower, says, "We are excited about this new center at The Summit." While the new space at 10,000 sf is slightly smaller than its planned facility at Lincoln Square, Brower says it will still be able to accommodate 132 children and will include a 4,700-sf outdoor area.
