Kmart to Close Three Area Stores

SALEM, MA-After filing for bankruptcy protection, Kmart announces it will close 284 stores across the country, including three in this state. The store closings need to be approved by the bankruptcy court. The discount retail chain has 26 other stores in Massachusetts.

SALEM, MA-In an effort to regain its footing after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection a few weeks ago, Kmart Corporation is closing 284 stores across the country including three in Massachusetts.

The Big Kmarts being closed in Massachusetts are 227 Highland Ave. here, 367 Russell St. in Hadley and 80 Main St. in North Adams. Kmart terms these and the other 281 stores it is closing “under-performing” stores. The discount retail chain has 26 other stores in the state.
