The deals were announced by Scott P. Lifschultz, principal of Chase Commercial/TCN Worldwide, which brokered both agreements.

In Danbury, Marty Shoes signed a lease for the former 9,000-sf CVS space in the Berkshire Shopping Center. Other retailers at the center include Home Goods, Fashion Bug, Marshall's, Radio Shack, Hallmark Cards and Wal-Mart. Lifschultz noted that a 25,000 sf space at the center might be coming available soon.

"Marty's saw an opportunity to co-exist with fashion-related retailers including Marshall's, Fashion Bug and soft good tenants including Home Goods and Wal-Mart," Lifschultz says. "In addition, we saw a lack of footwear retailers along the Newtown Road corridor and believed the center would be attractive for Marty Shoes." The company held a grand opening for its new Danbury store on March 1.

In addition, Chase Commercial/TCN Worldwide reports that Marty Shoes also inked an 8,500-sf lease at the Brookside Shopping Center on Main St., in Bridgeport. Marty Shoes plans to open its new Brideport store in the fall of this year. The space is currently occupied by Stop & Shop Pharmacy and is nearby Dress Barn. Lifschultz notes that Stop & Shop is expanding its store at the Brookside Shopping Center from 51,000 sf to its 65,000-sf prototype.

Other notable retailers at Brookside Shopping Center include Marshall's, Staples, Red Lobster, Peoples Bank and H&R Block. Vacancies of 4,500 sf and 2,500 sf are available at the property.

Chase Commercial/TCN Worldwide is continuing to search for additional opportunities for Marty Shoes throughout the New York metropolitan region. The shoe chain requires between 5,000 sf -10,000 sf of space in supermarket-anchored centers that also contain fashion-oriented retailers.
