City Begins ROW Condemnations for Cisco Project

SAN JOSE, CA-With the cost being picked up by Cisco Systems, the City Council this week authorized city staff to begin acquiring or condemning properties necessary for the widening of the Montague Expressway to make room for traffic that will be generated by Cisco's 3.3 million sf industrial development.

SAN JOSE, CA-The City Council this week directed staff to proceed with the acquisition and condemnation of two parcels necessary for the widening of the Montague Expressway. Cisco Systems is paying for staff time, the acquisitions themselves and the road widening as mitigation for its 3.3-million-sf development located north of the Agnews Development Center and west of Coyote Creek.

The road is being widened between First Street and Zanker Road. The council deferred approval on three other necessary parcels until the council’s March 19 meeting.

The property acquisitions were made a condition for issuing the Master Site Development Permit requested by Cisco on November 13, 1996. As part of the agreement for the company to acquire property rights over several parcels to add a land on the eastbound side of the expressway to accommodate traffic mitigation, the city agreed to provide real estate services to acquire the necessary right-of-way by either negotiation or condemnation.
