Council Questions Roadway in Washington Square Plan

WORCESTER, MA-The city's effort to redevelop Washington Square, a 25-acre parcel located in the heart of this city's downtown area, hits a snag as members of the city council want to consider other options for the roadway within the project.

WORCESTER, MA-The proposed redevelopment of Washington Square here, a 25-acre parcel located in the heart of downtown, is being held up as city council members evaluate different options for the four-way intersection within the project. The redevelopment is part of this city’s effort to revitalize its CBD.

The plan proposed by the city’s economic development department and the Worcester Business Development Corporation involves 88 residential units in two buildings, 364,00-sf of commercial and retail space and an additional 38,000 sf of mixed use space in Union Station as well as a hotel site and a bus port. The train station and the public space have already been renovated as part of phase one of this plan.
