The Park Center Business Park holding will provide Dell with space to operate the servers that power the company's internal Internet communications, Michele Glaze, a Dell spokeswoman, tells GlobeSt.com. "Basically, this is an existing facility that's going to allow Dell to continue our technology expansion in a cost-effective manner," she said. The company also has other data center operations in Central Texas.
Exodus had expanded its data centers rapidly in the late 1990s to take advantage of the dot-com fever and those companies in need of places to put the computers running their Internet-based businesses. When the dot-com bubble burst, so did many of Exodus' clients. Exodus filed for bankruptcy protection and many of its assets have been purchased by Cable and Wireless Plc. Dell, which also expanded rapidly in recent years, has cut jobs and is trying to find tenants to sublease office space in southwest and north central Austin.
