Sculpture Greets American Express Opening

MINNEAPOLIS-Artwork by Maya Lin, best known for her design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., graces the 1.3-million client services center where about 3,600 employees are in moving in.

MINNEAPOLIS-American Express this week unveiled major artwork by world-renowned artist/architect Maya Lin for its new Minneapolis Client Service Center, a1.3-million-sf office building in the process of opening in Downtown. The artwork is integral to the design and function of the building’s three-story, glass-enclosed WinterGarden and it intentionally blurs the distinction between interior and exterior spaces, between sculpture and architecture.

American Express Financial Services is in the process of moving into the 1.3-million-sf building on Third Avenue South and 10th Street. The new American Express client service center, on which American Express served as its own developer, was completed last month and will be home to more than 3,600 employees once moves are completed.

The building is part of a Downtown Minneapolis campus for American Express Financial Advisors that also includes 1 million sf headquarters building at 707 Marquette Ave., which was built by Opus Corp. based in Minnetonka, MN.
