Park Service Leases Science Museum Space

ST. PAUL, MN-A $500,000 grant from the McKnight Foundation allows for a build-out. The National Park Service will pay the Mississippi River National Center $50,000 a year in rent.

ST. PAUL, MN-A 2,000-sf space just inside the main entrance to the Science Museum of Minnesota will become the home of the a long-planned Mississippi River National Center. With a $500,000 grant from the McKnight Foundation, the space will be transformed into a visitor center for the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.

The visitor center had originally been slated to open along with the new Science Museum, but federal funding never came through. Now the McKnight grant will allow the 2,000-sf center is to open in early 2003.
