Plans call for a revamp of the facility, more than doubling its size from 124,000 sf to 262,000 sf. Plans recently submitted by Schnitzer Northwest are reportedly tied to the center's expansion.

After numerous design changes since it was first proposed several years ago, the design now calls for two hotels totaling 600 to 700 rooms and 500,000 sf; three office towers ranging in size from 300,000 to 450,000 sf, along with specially retailers and several restaurants.

Schnitzer owns 5 acres next to the center, located at Northeast Eighth Street and north of Northeast Sixth Street between 110th Avenue Northeast and 112th Avenue Northeast. Schnitzer bought the former Raymer Square from Tochterman Management two years ago. The Northwest developer hopes to build a 22-story, 400-room hotel there. Plans also call for a 1,147-space parking garage.

Several buildings would be demolished, according to Bellevue officials. Those buildings include a Dairy Queen and a Taco Time.

Schnitzer intends to complete construction of the hotel by 2004. Expansion of the convention center would follow roughly the same schedule.
