SEATTLE-Demolition permits for Sound Transit's 27-acre operation and maintenance center have been given a thumbs up.
Mayor Greg Nickels says the permits mark the first step in building the planned light rail system's central operations facility, which combines several properties located in the industrial area south of downtown.
“We're taking the necessary steps to build light rail,” Nickels said in announcing the news. “I made a pledge to see light rail built, and these permits move us closer to that goal. It's time to stop talking about how crazy traffic is and try to fix this problem before it threatens our economy, our environment and our mental health.”
