Suburb's Commercial/Industrial Permits Climb $92.8M in Year

CEDAR PARK, TX-A 30,000-population community is getting its share of the economic development pie as permit values for commercial and industrial development jump to $154.3 million. Sales tax receipts bring in another $5.3 million in 2001 revenue.

CEDAR PARK, TX-Several Cedar Park indicators jumped in 2001, reflecting the presence of new retail and commercial projects.

The value of all construction permits rose to $269.6 million in 2001, up from $194.9 million in 2000. In the commercial and industrial sectors, permit values jumped to $154.3 million at the end of last year from $61.5 million in 2000. Commercial permits climbed to 257 from 2000′s 102.

That development helped boost sales tax receipts in a year when other Central Texas treasuries posted decreases. Cedar Park’s sales tax receipts rose to $5.3 million in 2001 from $3.9 million in 2000. “People are realizing there’s an untapped market out here,” Kirk Clennan, executive director of the Cedar Park Development Corp., tells GlobeSt.com.
