Hoteliers Settle Prop 65 Liability

SACRAMENTO, CA-The settlement mitigates the impact of lawsuits brought by "bounty hunters"--private attorneys who sue hotel operators for millions of dollars in fines on behalf of the general public alleging violations of Prop 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986

SACRAMENTO, CA-Hotel owners and innkeepers throughout the state will now be able to limit their liability for violations of Prop 65 under terms of a settlement reached between the California Hotel & Lodging Association and the law firm of Graham & Martin.

Once approved by the Attorney General’s office and a judge, the settlement will require association members willing to participate in the agreement to post new warnings and guidelines in compliance with Prop 65–the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

The settlement is the result of the association’s attempts to mitigate the impact of lawsuits brought by “bounty hunters”–private attorneys who sue for millions of dollars in fines on behalf of the general public alleging violations of Prop 65 by hotel operators.
