The Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering award goes to companies that have worked effectively together on projects through team building, improving communications and resolving conflicts. The USAA project was one of eight projects receiving the award this year.
San Antonio-based USAA is a nationwide insurance company selling mainly to members of the military and their families. The McDermott building, in northwest San Antonio, houses USAA's corporate offices as well as those of its central and northeast regions, as well as banking, investment, and life insurance services.
The McDermott building at 10750 McDermott Freeway totals five million sf. In addition to the one million sf of office space delivered in the expansion, the project included a large kitchen, training and meeting rooms and parking decks to accommodate 4,500 vehicles. HKS Inc. of Dallas was the architect and Project Control of Texas, the project management consultant.
The work of Dallas-based Austin Commercial has included the corporate headquarters of Exxon Mobil, Southwest Airlines and EDS. Last year, it completed American Airlines Center in Dallas.
