BOSTON-Lyme Properties is proposing a 400,000-sf biomedical research building in the Longwood Medical Area. The project would be developed in collaboration with the Harvard Institute of Medicine.

Meredith Baumann, spokesperson for the Boston Redevelopment Authority tells GlobeSt.com that Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Lyme Properties has filed a Draft Project Impact Report with the BRA. The city agency has 60 days to either give the project the go ahead or ask the developers to rework it. “We’re still evaluating,” she says. “It’s too early to comment.”

The Longwood Medical Area is home to a large concentration of medical and academic institutions, including Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital. This project, called the Blackfan Research Center, would be located on a 45,575-sf parcel currently occupied by the Judge Baker Children’s Center. According to the report filed by Lyme Properties with the BRA, the Center sold the site to Lyme last April, and will use the proceeds to relocate to another site in the city. The Center’s five-story building will be demolished as part of the new project.
