Extra Training for Housing Authority Guards

MINNEAPOLIS-The 62 security officers working at 29 of the 40 multifamily complexes of the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority are getting lessons designed to help them work more smoothly with Somali and Muslim residents. The officers, who work for Burns International Security Services, began three-day training sessions sponsored by the US Justice Department’s Community Relations Service and held at the offices of theMinneapolis Urban League.

The Minneapolis Public Housing Authority’s recent decision to renew its security contract with Burns, a unit of Sweden-based Securitas, angered members of the community coalition formed to fight what they allege are hate incidents.
