A 7-4 vote on the big-box issue decided that new permit requirements would be imposed on warehouse-style stores larger than 50,000-sf, such as the proposed Home Depot on Bayshore Boulevard.

The vote can still be overrode by a mayoral vote and the supervisors say that additional review will be given to the subject so that residents can have a greater say in projects that will affect parking and traffic in various neighborhoods.

The live-work ordinance passed 9-1, requiring that all live-work lofts be set up as residences with an accessory workspace in the same unit.

Supervisor Jake McGoldrick says that city schools lost millions because of fee exemptions under previous rules and also blames them for sacrificing affordable housing in favor of the high-priced loft.
