Staubach Retail Services' Rolland Jones and John Dunton represented Staples, as they do all over the Northwest. The duo has handled leases or land sales for 33 new Staples stores in the past five years. "We're trying to finish up our expansion in the Puget Sound area right now," Dunton tells GlobeSt.com. "We're looking for sites."

Dunton tells GlobeSt.com that the retail market in the Puget Sound region is stable, with low vacancy for shop spaces and virtually no vacancy in big-box spaces. Rather than lots of new development, there is a lot of remodeling and expanding of existing malls going on at the moment, says Dunton.

In 2001, Dunton estimates about 1.3 million sf of retail was delivered in the Puget Sound region between Everett and Olympia. Currently, says Dunton, about two million sf is under construction, much of it coming online at existing retail centers.

Dallas-based Staubach is a real estate strategy and services firm. Other Staubach Retail clients include AutoNation, Barnes & Noble, Disney Regional Entertainment, Gap, Garden Ridge, Old Navy, Pier 1 and Target.
