Crow's Crossman Wins Deal-of-the-Year Award

ORLANDO-The eight-month, $2.5 million transformation of the 70,000-sf Shoppes of Sweetwater from a 50%-leased property at $10 per sf to a 100%-leased center at $20 per sf has won broker John M. Crossman, Trammell Crow Co.’s senior vice president/retail, Central Florida, the Deal of the Year Award for 2001.

The 300-member Central Florida Commercial Real Estate Society is recognizing Crossman for his role in rejuvenating the 20-year-old northwest Orlando property in an affluent neighborhood at the southeast corner of Hunt Club Boulevard and Wekiva Springs Road.

Owned by local developer Korshak and Beaulieu Co., Shoppes of Sweetwater was dark in January 2001. Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. had vacated a 40,000-sf space five years ago and no one had filled that void. Eager to fill the near-vacant property, the owner was taking $10 per sf rent from new tenants until Trammell Crow was contracted to turn the property around.
