The alliance, which will allow both firms to expand and enhance their services to data center clients, addresses a growing need for "mission critical" facilities that house and protect an organization's key knowledge and data. These buildings guard againstproblems caused by external factors such as power failure, extreme weather conditions and even earthquakes.

In the last six years, Ellerbe Becket has been responsible for planning and creating more than $600 million worth of mission critical facilities.

Meanwhile, Imation's storage consulting practice has a long track record of offering customers a lifecycle of independent storage consulting services including assessment, detailed design, proof-of-concept testing and implementation services.

Through Imation, Ellerbe Becket will be able to offer the additional services of data migration, disaster recovery, high availability, storage monitoring and management, dynamic storage scalability and backup services, says Peter Styx, principal at EllerbeBecket. Bill Peldzus, a storage consulting marketing manager for Imation, says the new partnership will allow it to get involved in customer needs starting from planning and design of the data center facilities to full implementation of the data center servers, storage, and infrastructure.
