INIT designs computer-based transportation systems. The company first established its North American headquarters in 1999, after considering several other locations across the country. Located at 1400 Crossways Boulevard, the new office will become home to an additional 34 employees--it now employs about 10 individuals--between now and 2004.
Chesapeake Economic Development officials have committed to giving INIT a $35,000 grant, based on the condition that the company is successful in its endeavor to increase its workforce. "Successful companies require easy access to suppliers and customers, a safe working and living environment, a well-trained labor force, and an overall environment that understands and supports the business community," Chesapeake mayor William E. Ward says in a statement last month regarding another Germany-based company's local expansion. "The continued growth of international companies…demonstrates that Chesapeake is a major player in the global economy.
