Dromgoole takes the helm as the impact of Dell Computer Corp.'s job cuts continue to reverberate throughout the community. Dell has been the community's biggest and fastest growing employer until it hit the brakes last year as computer sales slowed.
The new economic development plan, paid for by the chamber and City of Round Rock, calls for diversifying the city's job base by focusing on developing telecommunications, software, business and professional services, health services and retail businesses.
Dromgoole was with the Abilene chamber for 14 years. There he directed a staff of 25 and the chamber's affiliates including the industrial foundation, the military affairs council, the visitors and convention bureau, the cultural affairs council and education council.
Kara Felder, chairwoman of the Round Rock chamber, said it conducted an national search to land on Dromgoole. She said he has "demonstrated the leadership qualities necessary to lead the chamber's many initiatives.
