An international developer of on-airport distribution space, Lynxs will construct a 170,000-sf, concrete tilt-up cargo building, 10% of which is designed with office space. Completion is scheduled for October.

The new facility will be the closest cargo area to the airport's international terminal. The design includes air-side access for 20 wide-body parking positions and tug access to all terminals. Special emphasis will be placed on accessibility to all adjacent aircraft tarmacs and ample truck parking.

"The Lynxs Houston CargoPort will combine the best of what we have learned in our Lynxs CargoPort developments around North America with a spacious and well-conceived site plan provided by the Houston Airport System," said Raymond J. Brimble, managing partner of Lynxs Holdings LLC.

The Lynxs site, along with the other three sites--one of which will house a new UPS sorting facility--will help maintain Houston's standing as a major gateway to Latin America, according to Glynn Mireles, vice president of CB Richard Ellis Inc.'s Houston office. "It's a great coup for Houston because there is not going to be another facility like this in the country."

The economic impact is sure to be far-reaching. "The more capacity you have, the more freight you can lure to Houston," Mireles says. "And the more flights you have...it trickles down to other airport users."

Lynxs intends to lease the completed facility to an airline or cargo-handling operation. Mireles says two sites of East Side Cargo City will be developed into multi-tenant facilities.
