$2B Airport Expansion Uncorks 170,000-SF Cargo Project

HOUSTON-This morning, Lynxs Group and CB Richard Ellis will break ground on a 170,000-sf cargo facility, the first of four sites designated as East Side Cargo City. It is part of a $2-billion expansion at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

HOUSTON-A joint partnership of Austin-based Lynxs Group and CB Richard Ellis breaks ground at 10:30 a.m. today on the first of four sites designated as “East Side Cargo City” at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Located on nearly 8.7 acres at 18705 Lee Rd., the development is part of a $2-billion airport expansion plan initiated by the city more than four years ago to more than double the cargo capacity.

An international developer of on-airport distribution space, Lynxs will construct a 170,000-sf, concrete tilt-up cargo building, 10% of which is designed with office space. Completion is scheduled for October.

The new facility will be the closest cargo area to the airport’s international terminal. The design includes air-side access for 20 wide-body parking positions and tug access to all terminals. Special emphasis will be placed on accessibility to all adjacent aircraft tarmacs and ample truck parking.
