Air cargo traffic at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport dropped 16% in February 2002 in comparison to 21 million pounds from February 2001. For the first two months of 2002, air cargo traffic showed a 20% decline from the prior year. Just two years ago, air cargo traffic accounted for 23.8 million pounds.

International air cargo traffic was the bright spot, with 1.4 million pounds, a 200% increase in February 2002 and up 65% for January and February. International shipping, while still a small percentage of freight shipped through Austin-Bergstrom, has grown steadily in the past two years. In February 2000, just over 100,000 pounds of air cargo was shipped through the airport.

Passenger traffic fell 16% as 456,883 passengers traveled through the airport in February 2002. For the first two months of the year, passenger traffic totaled 918,135, down 17% from 2001.
