$90M Resort Developers Triumph in Court, Mostly

ASHFORD, WA-A Thurston County Superior Court Judge has sided with developers of the proposed Mount Rainier Resort at Park Junction on all but one issue: the size of the conference center must be shrunk and can't be built in a volcanic hazard area.

ASHFORD, WA-Thurston County Superior Court Judge Paula Casey says developers of a resort near Mount Rainier must scale back plans for the proposed 500-person conference center, before they can proceed with the rest of the development.

Plans call for a $70-million to $90-million 270-room lodge, 300 vacation homes and condominiums and an 18-hole golf course here in Pierce County.

Members of the Tahoma Audubon Society, who filed the lawsuit against the project, have said they are happy the judge has required the project be scaled back somewhat. Developers, on the other hand, have said they might challenge the conference center portion of the ruling but overall are pleased with the judge’s decision.
