One of the goals in building the center is to increase the time visitors spend in Fredericksburg by providing a place to showcase the town and the Texas Hill Country, according to Ernie Loeffler, the convention and visitors bureau director. One way to encourage longer visits is through the building's state-of-the-art theater. It will screen a video about the area's attractions. The design, by Stehling, Klein & Thomas Architects of Fredericksburg, uses limestone for the exterior with a standing seam metal roof and wood windows.

The 8,000-sf building is located across from the new George Bush Gallery of the National Museum of the Pacific War. It has parking space for about 120 autos and four motor coaches. Most of the money for the building came from a $741,000 Transportation Enhancement Grant from the Texas Department of Transportation and local hotel/motel taxes.

Fredericksburg, about 80 miles west of Austin, is home to shops, the National Museum of the Pacific War and bed-and-breakfast establishments. The Enchanted Rock Natural Area is about nine miles away.
