The store has been housed in Faneuil's North Building for roughly six months, facing the waterfront and North End. Later this summer, the retailer will move a few doors down to an 8,000-sf space, according to co-founders Thomas Brown and Ed Roberts. According to Brown, the seven-year lease carries a rent of $70 per sf.
Brown notes that while Faneuil Hall is "historic for us, we're both from Boston," their decision to set up shop there was based on traffic. "It's the second-busiest retail spot in America, behind Disney," he tells GlobeSt.com. "We get 18 million visitors a year. That's an average of 50,000 unique shoppers per day."
The new space is being designed to accommodate game tables, reading areas for children and parents, video game stations and store events for local residents and tourists.
