Struggling Corridor Plans to Attract Retailers

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, MI-This growing township is benefiting by residential growth and commercial development in neighboring cities, but it plans to create two busy thoroughfares along Michigan Avenue and Ecorse Road.

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, MI-This township is hungry for commercial development and jealous of neighboring big boy cities Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. Now, the township has created a plan that would direct retailers to various sites.

The township agreed to pay the Market Insite Group, a California company which has a branch office in Troy, to create a plan for two struggling streets.

The consultant group says four miles of Michigan Avenue and Ecorse Road should support more than 15 stores and restaurants. These businesses would make profits of almost $20 million together if they decided to come to the area, according to the consultant’s plan.
