Avalanche Owners May Buy Hockey Rink

DENVER-New Jersey-based National Hockey League wants to focus on owning and operating skating rinks on the East Coast, so it has put its two-rink project at the former Lowry Air Force base on the market for $7.4 million, $2.1 million less than a recent appraisal.

DENVER-Kroenke Sports Enterprises, the owner of the Colorado Avalanche NHL team and the Denver Nuggets, as well as Pepsi Center, where the hockey and basketball teams play, is showing interest in adding to its Denver real estate holdings. Kroenke is one of several parties interested in buying the Big Bear Ice Arena at Lowry.

Its owner, the New Jersey-based National Hockey League, has the two-rink project on the market for $7.4 million.

The 100,000-sf facility, built on 10 acres in 1997 in the heart of the former Air Force base cost more than $9 million to build and has been appraised at $9.5 million, National Hockey principal John Sabo tells GlobeSt.com. He says his company wants to concentrate on owning and operating skating rinks on the East Coast.
