BART Extension to San Jose Approved

SAN JOSE-Funding for several new transportation development projects has been approved, including $717 million for the long-awaited BART extension project that will bring BART to Downtown San Jose.

SAN JOSE-The California Transportation Commission has approved funding for a number of transportation development projects, including $717 million to extend BART in the South Bay.

A total of $8.7 billion was approved, including $1.1 billion in projects in the Governor’s Traffic Congestion Relief Program, $3.6 billion for the State Transportation Improvement Program and $4 billion for the State Highway Operation and Protection Program.

Within the governor’s program, $717 million was granted to fund the BART extension from Fremont to Warm Springs in Southern Alameda County and from Warm Springs to Downtown San Jose and the Mineta San Jose International Airport. The airport and local businesses have been requesting this service for several years.
