The store, which specializes in medium- to high-end traditional and hand-knotted carpets, will double the space it's exiting in the Village at Westlake shopping center in the southwest submarket. After renovation, the store is to open in July. Besides showrooms, it will have an area for viewing blueprints and meeting with clients and an extensive custom-rug area that will feature on-line design tools as well as a resource library.
"Since our first opening, approximately two years ago, we always knew that the Sixth Street area was where Edgar Kelly Rugs belonged," said Edgar Podzemny, owner of Edgar Kelly Rugs. "West Sixth Street offers continuity with our gallery, image and product."
Eric DeJernett of NAI/Commercial Industrial Properties Co. represented the building owner, Whit Hanks. Podzemny did not have a broker.
In March, Julian Gold, a San Antonio-based retailer of women's apparel, took 10,060 sf at West End Center. That store will open in the summer.
