IBC, the lead bank subsidiary of Laredo-based International Bancshares Corp., reaffirmed its commitment to San Antonio. Albertsons is leaving San Antonio because its stores were underperforming. "These closures are solely the result of Albertsons decision to exit the market," said Tom Travis, president and CEO of IBC-San Antonio. "We will not exit this market; rather, IBC will expand its presence in the market."
IBC said it expects to open new branch locations soon, but did not say where they will be. In the meantime, the bank is extending the hours of its regular branch bank and encouraging customers to bank online. IBC has maintained operations in two South San Antonio Albertsons stores that closed in December, but closed them Monday as planned.
