The city wants to lease the space at 4101 Ed Bluestein Blvd. for the Department of Small and Minority Business Resources and the One Stop Shop Small Business Assistance Center. The offices provide services, assistance and advice. The offices of the city's Small Business Development Program are nearby at 4100 Ed Bluestein.
The department is seeking city council OK to pursue a lease agreement with Motorola. The initial lease would run six months with an option to extend the lease for 31 months. The city wants to pay $234,000 for the first six months and up to $1.2 million for the extension.
Last year, Motorola Co. shuttered the 21-year-old plant, called MOS 8, as part of closures of obsolete facilities. The company, based in Schaumburg, IL, operates two chip plants in Austin. One is at the Ed Bluestein site and the other is Oak Hill in southwest Austin.
