Foundation spokesman Fred Silverman says the Bolinas Community Land Trust is receiving a grant of $300,000 and a loan of $144,000 to transform the historic Gibson House Bakery in downtown Bolinas into six rental units. The units will be available to low-income individuals and families who work in education, health care and child care at rents ranging from $375 to $600 per month. This project marks the first long-term affordable housing effort in Bolinas, according to Silverman.

The Marin Continuum of Housing and Services is receiving a grant and a $2 million loan to develop 34 transitional housing units at the former Hamilton Airfield in Novato, Silverman said. The group will offer the units to formerly homeless individuals and families who are overcoming obstacles such as domestic violence and mental and physical disabilities, he said.

And in Larkspur, the Ecumenical Association for Housing is using a $434,133 grant from the Marin Community Foundation to support pre-development efforts for a 24-unit family rental housing project called Drake's Way. One portion of the development will house people living with AIDS under a government-sponsored housing program, while the remaining units will be made available to local public employees, Silverman said.
