Call Goes Out to Designers for Surface Artery

BOSTON-The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority sends out requests for proposals for the first contract on the Surface Artery, the valuable swath of land that will be exposed in the heart of this city once the Biog Dig puts the highway underground.

BOSTON-After years of planning, the plans for the Surface Artery—the valuable swath of land that will be exposed in the heart of this city once the Biog Dig puts the highway underground—finally move on to the next step. The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority is sending out requests for proposals for the first contract of the project.

The Authority is sending the request to approximately 160 design firms around the country and around the world. The list is comprised of firms that expressed interest in designing the corridor as well as firms that the Authority believe qualify to contend for the contract.

This first contract is for two parcels in the North End totaling two acres and which the Master plan for the Artery designates as parks. The other two contracts will be for a one-acre in Chinatown and four acres in the Wharf district.
