Now, the pharmacy college is moving to a new $66-million, 270,000-sf building at John R. and Mack Avenue.
The college would like to sell its Shapero Hall, and has hired Friedman Real Estate Group Inc. to market the building. The firm has listed the 150,888-sf building for $6.4 million.
Friedman senior vice president Howard Perlman says the company is finalizing an environmental study before accepting offers.
"We've had six offers on the property, but we're asking them to hold off until the consultants can finish the study," he tells GlobeSt.com.
The college is moving out by the end of the semester, at the end of April, he adds.
"The building has a multitude of different possible uses," Perlman says. "It can be converted into offices, retail, or event residential."
He adds the building would be perfect for loft apartments, with an ideal view of the river and a good location off of I-75 and a view across the street from Greektown Casino. The building sits on a 5.5-acre lot. Perlman says the study should be done in a week to 10 days.
"Then we will start accepting offers," he notes.
