The policies will be incorporated into the agency's metro planning outlook for the year2030. Rather than continuing to view land rural property and farm land as underused land waiting to be developed, metro planning officials hope to come up with a way toprotect it from urban sprawl.
The plan would also accommodate rural communities that want to grow. For instance, the Met Council may offer those places wastewater treatment services -- a shift from the current policy of leaving rural areas to take care of wastewater treatment and other services themselves.
