Kmart Woes Puts Construction Crews on Hold

TROY, MI-A local firm's development projects for the retail chain that has sought bankruptcy court protection is awaiting results of a judge's ruling. Graimark-Walker was working on projects in Detroit and Washington, D.C.

TROY, MI-A local firm’s construction deals have been halted to build new Kmartstores, due to the department chain’s bankruptcy filing in Chicago. Graimark-Walker had a few Kmart store projects it was working on, but the plans have been put on hold, says partner Rick Walker.

“Kmart is not capable of letting the projects proceed,” he tells GlobeSt.com.

Stores the company was going to build are mostly in major metropolitan areas, including three in the Detroit area and one in Washington D.C., he says. Walker says the Washington store may move forward through an urban policy there.
