The city may still buy his site for its hotel.
Several city council members tell GlobeSt.com that his site across from the Colorado Convention Center, which will be doubled in size, is the logical site.
Webb Monday is scheduled to meet with top officials from Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Starwood, Omni, and Loews.
Liz Orr, who heads special projects for the mayor, says the city wants to deal only with the corporate division of hotels, and not with franchised hotels.
But David J. Cole, the Denver spokesman from the White Lodging Services of Merrillville, IN, which wants to build a Marriott on the site, says Orr is wrong and White Lodging is still very much a player.
Orr, however, says Cole is mistaken, and at least at this juncture, the city is only interested in dealing with the corporate side of the major hotel chains.
Separately, the city hired U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray and UBS PaineWebber Inc. as senior members of its underwriting team.
