Hartman tells GlobeSt.com that he's using his experience at Wendy's International and Pizza Hut to expand the restaurant concept of Austin-based Double Dave's. His first San Antonio restaurant at 6957 San Pedro Ave. near Northstar Mall will be 4,500 sf, compared with the usual Double Dave's size of 3,000 sf to 3,200 sf.
"There are a lot of people in San Antonio that know of the concept," Hartman tells GlobeSt.com. "I felt that I could take some of the systems and knowledge and experience I've had and could create a little bit of a larger restaurant to generate a larger return."
Hartman's other restaurant, 6462 N. New Braunfels, will be 3,900 sf. The third San Antonio restaurant, owned by Dan Pollard, will be 4,100 sf in the Castle Hills Market Center shopping center at 2211 N.W. Military Ave in the city's northwest sector.
Carl Kocurek and Cale Hahn represented Hartman. Kocurek is with the San Antonio office of the Dallas-based Weitzman Group and Hahn was formerly with Weitzman and is now a retail associate at San Antonio's Dominion Advisory Group. Pollard brokered his own deal, according to Hartman.
Hahn says the first restaurants are in heavily trafficked areas. The San Pedro location is near Northstar Mall, a heavy commercial and office area. The N. New Braunfels restaurant is two blocks from Alamo Heights High School, one of the few high schools that still lets students leave campus at lunch time.
Hartman plans to rapidly expand in San Antonio, Boerne and New Braunfels. "Once we get the right methods and procedures, we are just going to go as fast as we can," he says. "Between San Antonio, Boerne and New Braunfels, I think we're going to be able to do double-digits very quickly."
Double Dave's, based in Austin, was founded by Dave Miller in 1984 in College Station, TX. There are more than 30 Double Dave's restaurants in Texas.
