Maid-Rite Owners On Expansion Quest

DES MOINES, IA-Most of the chain's restaurants are now in Iowa and Illinois. However, it will begin offering about 1,000 turnkey franchising packages cost from $150,000 to $170,000 nationwide.

DES MOINES, IA-The Maid-Rite restaurant chain, known for its “loose meat sandwiches,” has new owners and an aggressive national expansion plan. Des Moines area businessman Bradley L. Burt and other investors bought the 76-year-old chain from the Gillotti family of West Des Moines, IA, which had owned the franchise for the past 15 years.

Founded in Muscatine, IA, in 1926, Maid-Rite is one of America’s first restaurant franchisers to offer drive-up service. Maid-Rite now has 83 restaurants in Iowa, Illinois,Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin. By beefing up advertising support, menu offerings, additional vendor pricing discounts andtraining, the new owners plan to grow the business to more than 1,000 Maid-Rite franchisees by 2012.
