Construction at 1875 Marin Street begins this month. The FedEx distribution facility will consist of approximately 100,700-sf., including accessory office space, 110 internal delivery van marshalling stalls, five external van stalls, seven loading docks for large delivery trucks, 64 at-grade parking spaces and up to 204 rooftop parking spaces.
The project calls for the demolition of the long-abandoned rice mill structure." This marks the end of an era as the old industries give way to new development and revitalization of the Army Street area," says Mark Hennigh, managing partner of Greene Radovsky Maloney & Share, who represented the sellers. "We were proud to be a part of this historic deal and to have represented the owners, descendents of the original mill owners. While it is sad to witness the end of a century-old San Francisco industry – the local rice milling industry was devastated by oil price increases and foreign competition in the 1980s - it is exciting to see the economic resurgence of the area."
The balance of the old Grosjean Rice Mill property is under contract and the sellers anticipate closing the second leg of the transaction this summer. The undisclosed purchaser of the balance of the property will refurbish the old W. J. Sloane Furniture Company warehouse. The cost of the acquisition has not been released.
