The city will buy the property following the environmental investigation, combine the parcel with an adjacent property, and sell them both for redevelopment.

"We are pleased to support Saginaw's effort to reuse this vacant property in the city's riverfront corridor," says department of environmental quality director Russell Harding. "Returning abandoned, contaminated sites to productive use is a cornerstone of Gov. John Engler's environmental and urban renewal strategy."

The assessment fund provides grants to local units of government for environmental assessment activities at properties that are candidates for reuse.
