SmithGroup Creates Downtown Development Plan

PONTIAC, MI-Most city officials have signed off on projects such as removing the Woodward loop, selling city parcels and opening a covered riverbed. Developers will be solicited for certain key parcels.

PONTIAC, MI-A new strategic master plan has been accepted by the city’s Downtown Development Authority, and stands to begin turning around the struggling Detroit suburb. The plan, drawn up by Detroit architectural and engineering firm SmithGroup, includes radical changes to the Downtown, including eradicating the one-way loop of Woodward Avenue around the historic city, and unearthing the once-buried Clinton River.

SmithGroup vice president Gregg McDuffee tells GlobeSt.com the DDA hired his firm to draw up a scope of work to create a redevelopment plan for the Downtown.

“There are several major components to the plan,” he says. “We completed a market analysis to have a much clearer understanding of the buildings and services of Downtown.”
