Bastrop Chamber Names New Executive Leader

BASTROP, TX-Susan Wendel will step in as president and CEO of the Central Texas town's chamber of commerce. Her "get-it-done" attitude is sure to help spur more development for the state's 10th fastest growing community.

BASTROP, TX-The Bastrop Area Chamber of Commerce has named Susan Wendel, a Bastrop resident, as its president and CEO. Wendel replaces Laura Terhune who took a job in another city.

Wendel will lead the chamber’s activity’s as its top staff member. She’ll report to its board of directors, chaired by Terry Orr. “She brings an enthusiastic, get-it-done attitude and the ability to get along with diverse groups of people that will help guide and coordinate the 400-plus members of the chamber,” Orr said.

The 10th fastest growing Texas county in the 1990s, Bastrop County’s population jumped from 38,263 in 1990 to 57,733 in 2000. The Bastrop chamber says more than 31,000 vehicles travel Texas 71 through Bastrop per day and projects an increase of at least 22,000 vehicles by 2010. Large-scale retail developments are in the works for Texas 71 in Bastrop, including a Home Depot store and a 90,000-sf H-E-B grocery store.
